Farmboy Rocks on to Victory at the Fort
Fort Victoria Competition 3rd January 2011
Conditions were pretty good for the intrepid few who ventured out on the last night of the Christmas/New Year holiday. Calm sea, no wind and just a little drizzle. Lets face it anything above freezing is nice these days! Man of the evening was Farmboy who found a pocket of
Shore Rockling to keep himself entertained through the evening. In the dying minutes of the comp as high tide was nearing the fish started to bite. Admin Dan had a small Whiting at the same time Farmboy hooked into a 14oz Flounder. Straight after Rmonkey1 (Rich) brought over a fat slug of a 5 Bearded Rockling which went 7oz the island record being 8oz 2dr which made it a relative whopper. What about me? I hear you cry. Well I caught a Shore Crab
Well done everyone and particularly to Farmboy who caught 5 fish, 3 of which were in-size. He took heavist bag and heaviest fish.
One of Farmboy's Shore Rockling:

A 14oz Flounder by farmboy was most welcome:

Rich's fat slug of a 5 Bearded Rockling is actually 86% of the island record

Identification notes: The horny tubercles running along the lateral line of the Flounder differentiate it from the Plaice. This Flounder diplayed weak orange spots but this is common in Flounder and can confuse people
